Unreal...need to rethink poker altogether

Not sure if I even want to keep playing this game. Had an awful nite...dont feel like adding up how much I lost.

The last 3 games of the nite pretty much sum up the whole nite.

This was a $30 reg speed, and the guy was such a nit....the kinda guy I really
like. He was so transparent...he just folded until he made a hand and then he fired huge. 3 fucking times I had him all in for his life and I either had him dominated or at least 60-40.

Here are the 3 times:

Of course, when I have 2 overs vs his smaller pair, he hits the set, locking me out.

Game 3

This guy was bluffing like a madman. Total fucking donkey. I laid down several really good hands against him, and doubled up sevral times too. It was a crazy match with so many ups and downs. Finally we get to 50/100 and I get AK on the Button. Here is how it played out.

An argument could be made to shove the flop, but honestly I think I played it correctly. He called with the gut shot, but if he had not hit, he wouldve shoved anyway, and that wouldve been it. But, of course, the K gives him Broadway, and thats a wrap.

I dont know man....I'm not sure if I wanna keep fucking with this much more...

Yeah, man it can be such a brutal game sometimes. Just give poker a few days rest and you'll prob be ready to hit the tables again. Just make sure you keep your head on straight.

FWIW there is nothing wrong with the way you played the AK hand when he nailed his gutshot on ya. I think shoving in the spot is missing way too much value. Even if you're opponent folds the turn EVERY time he misses and you stack off EVERY time he hits his check/call is still -ev. And like you said there will still be the times he misses and bluffs off, as well as when he c/c another bet on the turn after catchng a 10/J or just on his gutshot again. Then there will always be the times he catches and you redraw to a boat on river and stack him. Well played IMO.

good luck

Hey, sorry to see that youre sufering a bit from one of those inevitable downswings.
I'm not really interested in listening to bad beat stories, because its 100% clear that it takes a ton of bad luck to dropp that many buy ins in a short time.
That's why I never post bad beat stories in my own blog, and I seldom complane about standard bad beats to anyone. It's just a waste of time and energy.

When you run like this it's important to remember that in the end of the year you will be left with pretty much every coin you deserve, because aftar one year its basically 0% luck in HU sngs.

I find long term stats to be much more interesting than the 3 bad beats in your last few games.

So far youre doing ok with marginal profits in the 22-33 zone. I think its a good ide to grind the 20-33 games until you one day are crushing the 33 turbo in a big sample. Could happen quite soon.

I've always seen you as smart and solid player that got what it takes business-wise to succeede in HU sngs.
However I have to question that after reading your previous update about moving up to the 55s quite soon and be playing the 110 before the end of the year. I mean, how can you even talk about the 110s when you so far have played 86 games in the 50s and youre down 500 dollars there. Maybe your expectations has been a bit unrealistic lately.

At this point I think it's important to accept the downswing. I'm sure you know It's now a superkey to win back evey single coin that you've lost. Play safe games at 20s before taking new shots at higher games.

All we can ask is to improve and earn significantly more every year.

Bart...thanks for the analysis. It's reassuring to hear a player of your caliber tell me I played the hand correctly.

Thomas...I can see where you're coming from on the bad beat stories. I can tell you that I hate hearing other people tell them, so I def get it. But, I disagree that its a waste of time and energy to post them in the blog. When I posted these bad beats, I was on the verge of tilting hard. I was contemplating regging some $110's and going aggro apeshit on some mofo. Instead, I wrote in the blog...cooled of a little bit, and avoided a potential disaster.

I agree with you that I should grind the $20-$33 level until I prove I can be a solid winner in the $33 turbo. Thats the plan as of today. As for the $55's, many of those games were played in 2007 and 2008 when I was a noob and a donk compared to now. I just did a 6 month search for $55 HU and this is what I got..

Wingpin 24 $6.67 $55 12% $160 WWWLWLWL N/A PokerStars <6Mths E<=2 S55-55 Heads Up

Obviously, the sample is tiny, hence the numbers mean very little or nothing, but I would argue that the 86 game sample you are referring to is even less meaningful.

But...having said that, I get your point, and I agree with your advice. Maybe I'm too optimistic...we shall see. I'd rather be optimistic and have to throttle back a bit, then be too pessimistic.
